    Baysies vs Wanneroo 31/05/2008

At Kingsway, premiers Perth-Bayswater narrowly defeated Wanneroo 17-13 in a close, hard game in wet conditions for the inaugural Bill Watt Cup match between the two northern clubs. Wanneroo opened with a penalty to fullback Troy Doughty but just before the break Perth-Bayswater scored a try to lock Brent Murphy, converted by lock Jock Stanley, to lead 7-3 at half time. Stanley added a penalty to open the second half but Wanneroo drew even with a converted try to Doughty at 10-10. Perth-Bayswater broke the deadlock with a try to wing Fabian Broughton, converted by Stanley. Wanneroo added a penalty to Doughty and closed the match strongly on attack but with attacking center Palei Masili out injured their midfield lacked penetration and they couldn’t finish.

Baysies reserve grade won convincingly as well

it was a great game in the wet, bayswater were just a bit better and played a bit smarter.

Palei was a massive loss for us, hope he is back next week.

Good game to watch, despite the weather! I reffed the 2nds and was, therefore, AR for this game. Minimal rain during my game but boy did it bucket down at the start of The Main Game.

When Wanneroo got it back to 10-10 I thought "here we go game on!", but when PB scored immediately afterwards that seemed to have put paid to Wanneroo. To their credit they kept grinding on to get that PK and kept the pressure on but PB held 'em off.

Great game under the circumstances and I'd reckon Wanneroo now know where they stand in the scheme of things; what they are capable of if they all plug away together. PB played better & deserved to win.

wanneroo has come so far since last year, and i know a few players that actually defected to other clubs but have since returned!! i was impressed with the way they played, very physical... but i think the weather suited them as we were looking at playing a wide game.

A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...
