Scans on the knee HSBC Waratahs centre Ben Jacobs injured in Friday’s Super 14 loss to the Crusaders have revealed no major damage.

Jacobs was forced from the field in the second half of the match after falling awkwardly in a tackle.

Team staff feared the worst for the talented three-quarter, however with scans today revealing no major damage, Jacobs is expected to take his place in the Waratahs side which meets the Cheetahs on Friday at the Sydney Football Stadium.

“It was a shame to lose him on the weekend because he’s a key backline organiser for us,” said Head Coach Ewen McKenzie. “To lose him at any stage would be disrupting but at such a crucial stage of the match it threw our balance out a bit.

“He’s played every match for us since round one last year so it’s good news for him and the rest of the backline.

“He’ll just continue to do all the right things with the medical staff this week to make sure he’s available for us on Friday.”

McKenzie will announce his 22-man squad to play the Cheetahs on Wednesday.
The week eight Super 14 clash will be preceded by a blockbuster curtain raiser, the 2008 Caldwell Cup Final which sees Newcastle Hunter take on Illawarra to determine the champion NSW Country zone for 2008.
