World rugby champions South Africa could have a new coach by early tomorrow (NZ time).

Interviews of the short-listed candidates, to replace Jake White, who stood down after winning the World Cup in France last year, finished in Cape Town early today (NZ time).

Shortlisted for the job are recent South Africa assistant coach Allister Coetzee, former Super 12 Cats coach Chester Williams, SA Under-21 coach Peter De Villiers and former Bulls Super 14 coach, Heyneke Meyer, who is considered the favourite.

The committee charged with selecting a candidate interviewed Coetzee and Williams early today while Meyer and De Villiers were interviewed yesterday.

The committee is expected to forward their selection to the South African Rugby Union’s Presidents Council for approval tonight with the new coach expected to be named early tomorrow (NZ time).

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

    SARU NEWS RELEASE

SARU CONFIRMS DE VILLIERS AS SPRINGBOK COACH

The South African Rugby Union has confirmed the appointment of Peter de Villiers as head coach of the Springboks.

The announcement follows the meeting of the Presidents’ Council earlier today in Newlands, to discuss and confirm the recommendation of the appointment committee.

After a thorough selection process, involving tests and interviews with the four shortlisted candidates, SARU appointed De Villiers with immediate effect.

SARU president, Oregan Hoskins, said: “Peter comes with a good record and strong recommendation and I am delighted that he has accepted this huge challenge.

“South African rugby is on top of the world at the moment and SARU is confident that the new coach will build on this great momentum and move us into a new era.

“Peter has created history today by becoming the first black person to coach the Springboks. He is a strong leader and a coach with a proven track record. We trust that the rugby fraternity will support him and the team as we embark on an exciting new phase of rugby in South Africa.

“I am sure that Peter will make a major contribution to our rugby,” said Hoskins

I wonder if they have chosen the best coach in the country, or the best black coach.
