I doubt it - somehow "we could put a Super rugby team in Melbourne down the track, possibly the Gold Coast as well" doesn't seem hugely enthusiastic...

i think the AFL's Push into western Sydney will ultimately fail. The AFL can only prop up a club for so long, their already doing it with half a dozen of the Melbourne clubs to the tune of $1 million. I don;t care how much money a governing body for a sport is raking in, when your propping up 5 or 6 clubs your competition can't be as healthy as they want everyone to believe

hopefully they go broke. or force clubs to merge.
shorter season could make more people switch to rugby

they already want clubs to merge and relocate, but the clubs will say no to both so in the end it will be survival of the fittest. Even AFL experts say that 9 teams in Melbourne is unrealistic to last

It was easy for the ARU to shelve the ARC after one year because they had to "prop" up clubs. It's a little harder for the AFL with close to or over 100 years of heritage from every Melbourne based club.

The AFL will see it as business decision. They are the ones who tried to move Nth Melbourne to the Gold Coast. They are the ones who keep hinting at the possibilty of merging sides.

The AFL claims it's based on tradition, but when tradition gets in the way of the Business and money, tradition will go out the window

The AFL were close to getting a merger to form the DAWKS in 1996, until Diamond Joe Gutnick came in and poured about $4million into Melbourne's coffers. I'm sure there are people here who remember Fitzroy - succumbed to the sands of time and the odd heritage round guernsey.

No , that's a common misconception .All the clubs are making profits .
The problem is that the interstate and big clubs are making so much more money .
So it's a question of distribution and for that they have an equalisation fund .
Don't think money is the AFL's biggest problem in Western Sydney .
It will be big ask to gather enough virgin support out there .
Whether they succeed or fail it will have no impact on RU .

    Doesn't work like that .
People just don't switch codes like that .
Would you switch to AFL if there was no Force ?
Did you go to the AFL before the Force ?
