AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLBOYS DEFEAT SAMOA IN CANBERRA

The Suncorp Australian Schoolboys have recorded their second Test victory this season with a comprehensive 50-9 victory over Samoan Schools in Canberra this afternoon.

Aiden Toua and Joseph Tomane each crossed the line twice as the Schoolboys ran riot in an impressive seven-try display, despite the windy conditions at Viking Park.

The Samoan team started brightly and dominated possession and territory in the opening minutes but a well worked play from the Australians saw winger Tomane dive over in the corner to open the scoring.

The hosts scored a further three tries in the first half to take a commanding 29-0 lead into half time.

Samoa registered their first points in the second half through a penalty goal but the Aussies were dominant in attack and scored three more tries to seal their first victory of the Tri Series tournament.

Flanker Jake Schatz of Brisbane’s Anglican Church Grammar featured prominently in defence and made several barnstorming runs in his man of the match display.

Flyhalf Matt Toomua, who scored 13 points off the boot, and Lock Sitiveni Mafi were also a constant menace for the Samoan defenders.

Australian Schools Coach Pat Langtry had high praise for the team.

“Samoa came out strongly, and our boys did really well, especially since the Samoans exerted some physical pressure early on,” said Langtry.

“The cornerstone today was our defence. After the (11-3) win against England last month, today means we’ve gone two tough games without conceding a try, and that’s a great sign heading into the match against New Zealand.”

Australia now prepares for their clash against historic rival New Zealand for the Novotel Trans-Tasman Trophy in Sydney on October 9.

Australian Schools 50 (Aiden Toua 2, Joseph Tomane 2, David McDuling, Damien Fitzpatrick, Kesomi Lolotonga tries; Matt Toomua 5 cons, pen, Brock McGarity con)

    defeated

    Samoan Schools 9

although nothing to do with what the subsequent posts were about it is amazing to look at those lineups and see how many of these players have been at the Force at some stage. I count 10.

also I never would have realized some of these are all the same age. Fitzpatrick, Horne, Slipper, Taps, Lance etc feel like they have been around forever, whereas DHP, Ah Nau, Turner, Toua, Abel, Tomane etc I still considered young with plenty of rugby left.

What happened with Justin Turner - I thought he had played well with the Force the limited time he had, and he's been playing really well NRC.

The Justin Turner from the Rays is a different Justin Turner. The one the Force had was just too injury prone to justify putting money into.
