Flanker McVerry says sayonara to Reds

Queensland flanker Tom McVerry has ended his seven year stint at the Reds after taking up a one season deal with Japanese club Kyuden Voltex.

McVerry played 55 games for Queensland including every match for the Reds in the ill fated 2007 Super 14 season.

The Reds won just two games in 2007 and finished with the wooden spoon for the first time.

A Reds Academy graduate, McVerry made his Queensland debut against Argentina in 2000.

He also represented the Australian Rugby Sevens team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Reds performance rugby manager Ben Whitaker said McVerry had been a great contributor to Queensland rugby as a Reds player and as the inaugural captain of the Australian Rugby Championship team the Ballymore Tornadoes.

Can't say I blame him, with the longevity of Croft and a couple of handy young Backrow recruits showing promise, the writing would definitely be on the wall for him at the Reds.
A good honest journeyman who would probably be praying for an early expansion of Super Rugby to his home town of Melbourne.
