Ali Williams (Blues, Lock, 8.0)

Williams returns to Auckland as the experienced leader of the Blues pack. Williams' productivity with ball in hand and domination in the lineout stood head and shoulders above a star-studded Crusaders pack in 2008. In Auckland he'll carry even more of the workload which means even greater Fantasy value.

George Smith (Brumbies, Backrow, 10.0)

Smith doesn't come cheap, but as a wise man once said: 'you have to spend money to make money.' Smith's prowess at stealing ball is legendary, even kleptomaniacs take notes when the back-rower is in action. The multi-skilled open-side flanker is the complete package, a Fantasy manger's dream.

Fourie du Preez (Bulls, Scrum-half, 7.0)

du Preez will be looking to put an injury riddled season behind him and a big year awaits the dynamic No.9. The Springbok scrum-half constantly threatens opposing teams with his running game, particularly around the ruck and off the back of the scrum. He doesn't go missing in the rough stuff either…ticks in all the right boxes for Fourie.

Juan Smith (Cheetahs, Backrow, 7.0)

Smith skippers the Cheetahs and leads from the front. He's a tireless worker across the park who's dominant at the breakdown, and gets through a mountain of work in the open. Smith is the 'must-have' selection from the outfit and represents excellent value for all Fantasy managers.

Stephen Donald (Chiefs, Inside Back, 8.5)

Donald is the complete point-scoring machine. His 2008 campaign saw him collect 6 tries, 30 conversions and 21 penalty goals which all translate into valuable Fantasy returns. Donald's powerhouse running and radar-like passing game makes for unmatched try-assist ability and his attacking repertoire is Fantasy gold.

Richie McCaw (Crusaders, Backrow, 10.0)

McCaw picks up his Fantasy capital right across the park. Both hard-running and ball-playing, he's no stranger to offloads and try assists either. McCaw will also lead the way on the defensive end with tackling numbers and borderline pilfering tactics that have even Aussie Fantasy managers cheering.

Matt Giteau (Western Force, Inside Back 11.0)

Giteau is the 'Golden child' in the west and with good reason. He kicks goals, sets up tries, rarely misses tackles and generally speaking, everything he touches results in Fantasy points. He's the most expensive player in the League but a proven performer, an ace in the pack and worth every cent.

Fetu'u Vainikolo (Highlanders, Outside Back, 5.0)

Vainikolo stormed into Super 14 playing more minutes than any of his teammates in 2008 and finishing with a team-high six tries. Vainikolo's ability to break the line will be a big earner for Fantasy managers and after a year of getting his feet wet, he'll only get better in 2009.

Andrew Hore (Hurricanes, Hooker, 7.0)

Hore was the dominant force in 2008's Fantasy Super 14 campaign, his accurate throw and love of the hard yakka earning Fantasy managers more points than any other player throughout the season. Surprisingly Hore was also the second-highest try-scorer for Hurricanes which supplemented his Fantasy income nicely.

Andre Pretorius (Lions, Inside Back, 8.0)

Pretorius is worth his weight in points with his superb goal kicking ability. The fly-half can knock it over from anywhere on the park, anywhere in the southern hemisphere. His pin-point passing and general leadership at five-eighth will be the key to the Lions avoiding the wooden spoon for a second year running. Much expected of Pretorius and much will be delivered to your Fantasy point total.

Schalk Burger (Stormers, Backrow, 10.0)

It's hard to miss the blonde bomber as he tears from ruck to ruck, skittling everything in his path. He tackles anything that moves and when he hits them, they stay hit. His abrasive play often forces turnovers which puts points in your Fantasy account. Burger is an ideal selection because he's always in the thick of it and is purpose-built for racking up big numbers for your side. Excellent return on investment!

Berrick Barnes (QLD Reds, Inside Back, 8.0)

Barnes is central to the Reds hopes in '09 and the maturing play-maker is set to flourish under the pressure. He tackles like a man possessed, can break the line and has a beautiful passing game. Barnes should also take the goal-kicking duties from the departed Clinton Schifcofske, adding further value to his selection.

Adrian Jacobs (Sharks, Inside Back, 4.5)

Don't let Jacobs' low cost fool you, this bloke is going like a house on fire at the moment. The robust centre made a return to International rugby last year and cut through defensive lines at will. You'd need a bazooka to bring Jacobs down when he's within sight of the try-line and he hits hard in defence as well. One word, value!

Wycliff Palu (Waratahs, Backrow, 8.5)

Cliffy was the number-one ranked fantasy back-rower in 2008, third overall.
His stats could go through the roof in '09 as the Waratahs look to compensate for the losses of Dan Vickerman and Rocky Elsom. Both noted for their high tackle counts and strong ball carries, Palu will be charged with picking up the slack. Big man, big numbers in Fantasy land.
