April 25, 2009 Queensland Reds have all but ended the Blues run towards the Super 14 finals, outlasting the hosts 31-24 and winning a Super rugby match in Auckland for the first time.
Just five minutes into the game, a power failure saw the lights at one end of North Harbour Stadium go out, resulting in both teams agreeing to leave the field until the problem was resolved.
Play got underway almost an hour later but the Blues looked like their minds were still in the sheds as the Reds raced to a 17-0 lead, the home side not getting on the scoreboard until after the half-time siren.
Berrick Barnes dominated the scoring for the Reds with a personal haul of 16 points as the visitors held strong in the second half for a bonus-point victory, finally shaking their Auckland hoodoo.
