Was he the abstainer on the one who voted against the motion?

Stoked voted against, and one other abstained.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Federal Government comes in and gets rid of the cronyism, a bit like what happened in 2005 with soccer. There would be Federal grants that have been given to the game and they would be wondering how well it is being spent...

Didn't they threaten that and the ARU changed (or promised to change) the board so that there would be more representation for the states that aren't NSW or QLD?

Difficult to see how the current board could be less NSW & QLD orientated, mind you.

    From Wikipedia:

The governing structures of the ARU were overhauled in December 2012,[13] following a review authored by the former federal senator and Minister for Sport, Mark Arbib.[14

Yeah, doesn't seem like it went far enough with the sort of amateurism we are seeing at the moment.

I don't believe that ARU implemented all of the Arbib reports recommendations! Only some. It was his first gig after being Minister for Sport.

    Federal Sports Minister Greg Hunt

Have just sent an email to ask if his department is aware of the debacle that has being created by the ARU. Pending Law suits, broken contracts. No transparency in how it is reaching it's decisions concerning the administration of the game in Australia.

Time to get on board and email bomb him now.

I hate to be that guy but the Federal Minister will probably just refer straight back to the courts in terms of any decisions made, breach of contract etc etc.

    "Dear Mr Joblot,

My Department has been aware of the current position in respect of the Australian Rugby Union and is keeping a close watch on the situation. We fully understand that a professional offshoot of the sport, calling itself Rugby League intends to establish itself in the Colonies of Queensland and New South Wales.

The difficulties this creates will necessitate the drafting of amended playing rules to differentiate and regulate the emergent new code and the Government is assisting by making available the services of the Offices of the Solicitor General and the Proctor in Chief (Anglican) for this purpose.

We concur that the Forces of good must triumph over those of evil, and that the Western World is the source of all good.

Finally, may I take this opportunity of laying all blame for this fiasco on the Honourable Mr William Shorten and the disreputable rogues within the Trade Union Movement.

    I remain, Sir,
    your obedient servant

    Gregory Hunt
    Minister of the Crown"
