    I meant whether the Praetorians were even formed, I'm good on the rest of my Roman history, not as much on the Praetorians....the Roman historians were as bad as the Greeks some of the time...it's hard to telll whether Plutarch is giving a proper account or simply writing something to achieve whatever means he was trying to achieve....

    true. he was interested in telling the story with a moral lesson.
    but the account of the death of caesar has been told in other sources. umm some dude called scullard tells it the same as well. but he would have used plutarch as a reference.

    i'm pretty sure the praetorian guard was around then. because i think it was Giaus Marius who established them. i know he established the bardiaye. so the idea was there. although marius used the Bardiaye as his private killing force.
    if he said hello to someone and they didnt say hello back they would be killed. and people were killed for saying hello to him as well.

    i loved ancient history. so much i am going to end up teaching it.
    as well as outdoor ed.
    i actually just decided that i am going to do A.H as well. i was tossing up between that and human biology. but this litttle session just made up my mind. thanks BLR

    we still use the calender that was designed by augustus in 4AD
    and military strategies, architeture, maths. scholarship and so much more aye.
    the structure of the harbour at ostia that was build by the romans is still there like 2200 years on!
