$100,000Aus (90,680.73 USD) = $27,850.00 (25,254.58 USD) including $1500 of public health charge (Medicare Levy) which virtually all Australian Residents pays

a $400,000AUS family home does not have any any property tax or real estate tax on the family home. Also if the Family home is sold for a profit over its purchase price there is no Capital Gains Tax charged on the profit.

Sales tax in the United States as I understand it is a State based Tax, here in Australia there is no Sales Tax - majority of goods and services are charged a 10% Goods and Services Tax also known as a Value Added Tax.

As far as other taxes are concerned, thats a big question.

Stamp Dutys on the purchase of Property or Cars/Trucks etc are a State Tax and that depends on where you live.

Excise on petrol(gas) is a Federal Tax and is huge its approx 45% of the actual price we pay at the bowser.

That's why I have such simplistic views on political policy in this country. I've given up on the rectangular stadium thing, the current government will bow to the pressure of a greater supporter base by shafting a trio of sports with a significant (but smaller) supporter base. Whether it's a Labour premier who's scared of appearing to support rich private school kids or a sports minister who's spineless when an AFL official walks through the door, Whether it's a Caucus who can't look past the fact that 3/4 of this state still support AFL despite the fact that one team is singlehandedly supporting an entire columbian province simply with the pocket change from their drug deals and the other team hasn't won a game since Noah wore short pants.......

Politicians are all whores to somebody....unfortunately, we have none who are whores to rugby yet!

We have 2 more taxes that Exile didn't mention - maybes they don't have them over East

Council Rates depends on where U live each council (local goverment/ city) charges differently - approx $1000
Water Rates + water usage charge approx $1000

Also road tax on each car - the Gov charges Stamp Duty on that and then adds Gst or VAT on top - same with all insurance policies

Still the lucky country - but all the charges add up. Most people are now paying 8.5% mortgage - americans are only paying 5% - why we have the extra 3.5% when all the banks are putting up the rates to pay for the American subprime is a mystery !

Also mega boom going on here - the Gov is always banging on about a 3trillion dollar surplus - and they can't commit to upgrading subi never mind a mention of a Rectangular Stadium
