    Yeah, that's interesting isn't it?

with Bynard, Ross and Dickie starting and Matt, Lewis and Isi on the bench, there has to be a plan 5 locks named, and Hardwick the only back 5 forward with any noted capacity to pilfer there HAS to be something in the mix. I can't imagine that Dave Wessels, after everything I've seen from him this year would do something so Richard Graham dumb!

Maybe they'll be looking to counterruck, rather than pilfer
Maybe they're after the strong straight meters that they'll get from those blokes
Maybe shoring up the set piece (although it seems like they're selling the entire farm to save the home paddock if that's the plan)

Two Hookers that aren't noted throwers, but strong scrummagers and destructive in defence makes the whole mixture a lot more interesting.

I have faith that our coach isn't stupid, and therefore I'm excited to see what his plan is.....also excited to see whether Jamie Joseph can predict anything at all based upon that selection!!!!

I don't think Mrs Hodgo is too happy. She jumped in when I asked on the WF FB feed about the possible injuries to Heath & Jono. She stated that "Hodgo is fine. Not sure about Heath and Jono"

I'm as big a fan as anyone of Hodgo, but when you look at the performance of the back row I don't see him as necessarily the first choice anymore as it depends on the game plan. When the game plan requires heavy breakdown work with hard arse tackling, he is the first pick. But when we are standing off rucks and choosing when to engage and the back row is about carrying the ball through the defence and over the advantage line, that is the current back selections.

I've noticed with the stats collected by AndrewG that we regularly aren't hitting the rucks as much this year, sounds a bit like there is a plan there.

And maybe that's why Brynard is 7, as he's been getting some good run metres lately, more ball carry.

The reality of Super Rugby is that there has been a momentum shift in favour of the attacking team. It is much harder to be successful as a defensive team. The Kiwis know it. They don't kick for penalties much anymore. They go for tries. This in turn reduces the importance of scavenging for the open-side flanker (i.e. less need for scavenging if you are on the attack). Ideally what you need it 8 forwards who can put in dominant tackles, compete at the breakdown and make metres with ball in hand. Hodgson is still a great forward but he is not a ball runner in the same way that many of our other backrowers are. A small part of me wonders if Hodgson's impact on the team is similar to the one that Phil Waugh had in his later years. A touch too conservative.

Jono broke his hand in the last game in Argentina hence why he came off so early, Heath I think is being rested, kane was meant to be ready to play this week but think he's made his way down the pecking order.

Last I heard Kane had concussion issues.

Don't know anything about Burton. As I've said before....it would be nice for head office to let the members know what the injury status is of our team.

Selection is almost last man standing. Wessells seems to be going for a big strong team. We had a weight advantage over the Jaguar scrum last weekend....how often do you hear that of an Australian team?

Picking the best team with the available cattle. It looks a pretty good team on paper and I like Stander Hardwick and RHP. They will give the Highlanders defence something to think about. All 3 can carry the ball as can the two (four) locks in the team. With the highlanders having to defend at the centre it will free up the backs to show some dazzle.

No point going in with a defensive mindset. This is an attacking team with ball in hand. Hopefully PG won't kick the ball away too much.
