PARIS: Spain booked the final men's team place at the Olympic Games by winning the repechage tournament in Monaco on Sunday, shocking favourites Samoa in the final.
Only last month, Samoa won the Paris leg of the World Sevens Series, beating the mighty Fiji - who would later secure the overall crown - in the final.
But Spain scored a last-gasp try to beat the Pacific Islanders 22-19 to book their ticket for Rio in August.

Only 12 teams in this tournament, hopefully they'll re-adjust the qualification process for the next one, Samoa should have been in it according to their core status. It's a shame that Tonga and (Republic of) Ireland miss out as established rugby nations. No Canada, Georgia, Hong Kong or Romania in it either, unfortunately.

I think it's great to see a fringe nation like Spain get a gig. It heralds an expansion in the rugby universe, since when has that been a bad thing?
