I heard a few rumours at training tonight, and I thought I might monger a few to spark a bit of interest in the moribund world of club rugby as featured on this site lately.
Palmyra have the most drop dead gorgeous physio ever seen in the history of WA rugby. She is probably also very good at her job, but that will be a minor consideration. Associates eat your heart out.
Things are getting better and better at University. They have acquired all of Associates front row, plus a few spares, and half of Kalamunda, including their star winger and no.8. You can also add a couple of useful Soaks coaches, including Andy Cole, in that mix. No club has been spared in Uni's drive to field the best team that the taxpayers' money can buy this season.
Nedlands and Wests haven't let the grass grow under their feet in that department either, and there are a lot of cashed up players around in those clubs.
Poor old Cottesloe will again have to rely on their six or so Force players to make up the numbers, 'cause they've got bugger all else.
Joondalup have also recruited strongly from other clubs in their vicinity, but when you're reduced to buying players from Wanneroo and Perth-Bayswater, it's a sure admission that you're stuffed.
I haven't heard much about the trial games played last weekend, as I was so enthralled at the prospect they offered that I went fishing instead. I heard Cottesloe got touched up by Paly's third grade, and that West's stalwart Carl (forget his surname for the moment) was Wests delegated spy for the match.
My pre season tip is Uni, Wests and Nedlands, in that order. As a bookie mate once advised me, always follow the money.
