When they took to rugby, many wondered how Thailand's ladies would ever fit into such a rough, body contact sport. The followers of the game pointed out, quite sensibly too, that their physique will not be able to match the opposition in such a tough sport.
They said that the Thai lasses would never match the tough, tall and well-built players from elsewhere in the continent.
But Thailand, who qualified for World Cup from Asia, last October in Hong Kong passed their biggest test.
They bravely toppled the strong teams in their tough qualifying group which included the continents top rugby playing nation, Japan and Taiwan, and entered the final.
When they beat Taiwan 24-5 many eyes rolled with surprise. Their 12-10 victory over Japan was astonishing.
When they beat China 14-7 many wondered how the Thais could have caused such sensational surprises.

I imagine they would have very good ball skills.

sorry beige, im impressed about the Taiwanese women's side, but it was to easy a target.
I wonder if all the girls were post-op or pre-op
That's ok, we Viets can take it...
Actually, I had a half memory about a Thai girl doing well at weightlifting, so I checked, and Prapawadee Jaroenrattanatarakoon (gotta love those Thai names) actually won gold in the 53kg class at the Beijing Olympics and another Thai girl won it in Athens- might have been the same person, apparently she changed her name before the Beijing games.
So obviously there are a few girls up to the rigours of rugby over there- good on em.
On a little more serious note..........
Just had nearly a month in Thailand. On one of their local sports channels they were running programs that explain and demonstrate the laws and skills of our game - not a ping pong ball in sight.![]()
Great to see the profile rising there.
