    SOCK SCURRY

    SOCK SCURRY

    GREG GROWDEN

    June 11, 2010

There was a mad scramble before the Australian Barbarians match against England in Perth on Tuesday night because some of the players had forgotten a certain tradition. When you play for the Barbarians, you wear your club socks. Several of the players didn't know this, prompting the team's liaison officer to get 10 pairs of Cottesloe club socks - the club where James O'Connor and Richard Brown play. Peter Hynes wore the Cottesloe socks, while several others went out and bought different coloured socks for the occasion.

Ah.. that makes some sense... I just figured there must have been a Sydney/Brisbane club with similar socks to Cott. Clearly wasn't paying attention to who was wearing them.

Sorry but that's an insult to the Barbarians RFC. What the f*** are the Australian Barbarians anyway?

Baa Baa's since 1890. That was Australia A.

Back to the sock worry, I just hope the players actually know who the Barbarians RFC are.

Anyone know (or ever likely to find out) what the match payments for the barbarians were? Would it be comparable to playing for Australia A (before they were disbanded)?

The only reason I can think for not calling Tuesday's team Australia A was economics.

On his hands was that the excuse, it was almost like watching him drop his wallabies opportunity on the wing.
