The Wallabies believe they can channel the pain of their worst Test defeat into a massive motivator when they meet the All Blacks for the Tri-Nations title in two weeks’ time.

The Brisbane clash was shaping up as one of the most anticipated trans-Tasman Tests in years following Australia’s big breakthrough in Durban last weekend.

But, shattered by their 53-8 thrashing by the Springboks at Ellis Park, Australia were doing their best to find some optimism ahead of the series decider.

Asked if he’d be able to harness that agony, coach Robbie Deans said: “It’s already happening.

“It’s a backdrop I guess.

“It’s been like when you touch a flame and get burnt. You don’t generally go back there, hopefully. What we do from here is critical.”
