Rocky's ready to take some risks

Rocky's ready to take some risks

    December 06, 2007

NSW warhorse Rocky Elsom says the Waratahs will adopt a more aggressive approach and take more risks to get back into contention for next season's Super 14 title.

His blunt message comes as the full Waratahs squad regrouped this week after their unsuccessful 2007 campaign where they finished second last.

Elsom said the team had paid the price for being too cautious.

"I think we will probably be a bit more aggressive," he said.

"In the past we couldn't afford to drop a game and we ended up dropping the whole season, so I think we have no choice but to be aggressive."

The approach involves being more attack-orientated and taking more risks.

"That is what we definitely need to do," Elsom said.

"When we played well at the end of the season we threw the ball around and had a lot of success doing it."

He and the other World Cup Wallabies returned to NSW training December 4.

Elsom arrived back in Sydney at 6.30am after playing for the Barbarians against the Springboks, went to Artarmon to film a Super 14 TV advert and spent the rest of the day training with NSW.

Waratahs skipper Phil Waugh has started light work under the watchful eye of team physio Stu Pavely.

"I'm not too bad coming off ankle surgery and shoulder surgery," Waugh said.

"Both pulled up really well and I'm hoping to be back into full training in a couple of weeks."
