    Bergamasco handed scrum-half role

We aren't the only ones with problems - here is another solution I suppose!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Italy have given Mauro Bergamasco the scrum-half jersey for Saturday's Six Nations opener against England.

The Stade Francais flanker, 29, takes the number nine jersey after Pablo Canavosio, Simone Piccone and Pietro Travagli were all ruled out injured.

Bergamasco, who has never played at scrum-half for Italy, has been working on his passing and kicking in training.

A bit off track, but having played all my Schooldays working my backwards in the back five of the scrum I played two Yr12 1st XV matches as Scrumhalf, was the "funnest" matches I ever played and was definitley a fourth Loosie and not a Halfback! We had two replacement #9's injured and our starter in detention so it was finally the big fellas time to shine
    Loved it.

QR Reds coach Phil Mooney has named Peter Hynes at fullback for the match, as selectors continue to experiment with the back three.

The versatile Hynes, last year's Wallaby Rookie of the Year, will wear No 15 to give Brando Va'aulu a chance to play wing for the first time this season.

Mooney said it will also allow him to give recent league converts and fullback candidates Mark McLinden and Rod Davies more game time in the curtain raiser match against the Force Academy.

The Reds have opted to rest Hugh McMeniman from the match.

Western Force Coach John Mitchell has named a strong 24-man line-up, with Wallabies Matt Giteau, James O’Connor and Nathan Sharpe making their first appearance for the 2009 season.

Sharpe will be joined in the second row by Brisbane boy Pat O’Connor, who has recovered from a hamstring strain and will play his first match on Australian soil since 2006.

Teenage Wallaby James O’Connor has been named on a nine-man reserves bench, but will also play in the curtain raiser.

    Gates Open: 5pm

    Main Game: 7pm
