While were on this thread loading songs onto an ipod ruffles my feathers. Sure it'll be good when its done but it is tedious.
720 songs on there so far and it can have 30,000, why?

i just cannot believe that i paid that much tax in one week. its absolute bullshit
Did you defer your uni fees? If you did, they are taking extra out to pay off your hecs debt because its something like when you ear $30,000ish per year then they can start taking out money to repay hecs, but at the end of the financial year if you haven't earnt that much, then you get it back and I think if you earnt more then you have to pay more tax.
I think the last bit is right, but its definately because of hecs, if you have it.
i thought that as well. i asked mum if anything had come in the mail. and it hadnt. they generally send you a latter telling you that they are going to take money out for a HELP debt.
but i know i will definatley have to pay mine off when i submit my tax return next year. it shouldnt have anything to do with my weekly wage until then.
i am gonna sort out salary sacrifice anyway. going to buy an XR6 ute - the ripcurl edition.
anyone wanna buy a lancer :D
They didn't send me anything out, at the end of the financial year they send you a statement telling you your HECS/HELP debt for the past year. I only got mine (for my Notres debt) in June this year. They definately don't warn you that they are making you pay more tax though, that's all detailed in the info you get when you sign up to defer your fees.
It has to do with your weekly wage because say you earn $1000 per week, they multiply that by 52 weeks in a year and say you're going to earn $52,000 this year therefore you're earning $17,000/year above the amount we start taxing you at, so we're going to take out out ~$327 ($327x52=17004) this week to pay off HECS/HELP.
Then at the end of the financial year when they realise how much you did actually earn, they calculate how much tax you should have paid and if its more than you paid, you get a tax return and if its less than you paid, then you have to pay up.
i dunno. either way i am fuming about it.
Yeah, I never remember being told I was having HECS* taken out of my pay- it just was. If you checked the 'yes i have a HECS debt' box on the witholding declaration then they've taken it- adds another 3-6%. If you haven't checked that box (or if the payroll departments a bit slow), there'll be a big bill waiting for you in July. I know which I'd prefer.
Think of it this way Jono- to have donated that much to the 'working families' of Austraya, you must have earned a fair bit to start with :D
*I'm old, so I'm afraid I'll be calling it HECS till the day I die.
swee, check your PM's. got some questions you might find intersting
