would pay money to see our #1 club side play Shite Shield #1 side...
Well last week was very good for re-signings, hopefully this coming week adds more in particular those with a Wallaby Top Up. As there are a number who will likely get a Top Up it's understandable that we haven't heard about Coleman yet as the broke ARU are probably finding it difficult to divvy up the crumbs between the following:
Hooper
McMahon
Kuridrani
TPN
Coleman
Hunt
Of these Coleman is the most important for Wallabies success going forward.
Isn't there some crap about they have to be with the Wobblies for two years before they get top ups? And if that is the case if I was AC I would be fluttering around possible contracts from all over. He is certainly worth top dollar and if the FUARU don't know that they have less in the top locker than I can possibly give them credit for!
So how much exactly can be used for Player contracts? Is it $4.5 million plus up to 500,000 of advertising money that can be re-directed?
And does this including Coaching and other staff within the 4.5M, or just players?
A select number of Wallabies players (20-30) receive a Wallabies Top-Up.
These players are covered by an ARU contract in which the ARU determine their "worth" in an effort to keep players in Oz.
The ARU determine how much of this is paid from the franchise salary cap the rest is covered from elsewhere (and administered by the ARU).
(This makes it very hard for Clyne to say that "they have nothing to do with the management of the SR franchises.
The ARU does much to influence the success of each SR franchise including the allocations to the State RU.)
The only difference to this is for the Western Force which has ALL players under ARU contracts as it is the employer.
According to Georgina Robertson from the SMH the Wallabies top-ups total values about as follows:
Waratahs - $2.6 Million
Reds - $1.3 Million
Brumbies - $1.1 Million
Force - $0.27 Million
Rebels - $0.13 Million.
Payments to select players such as Falou, Hunt, Cooper, Genia et al are in addition to these amounts.
The ARU has NEVER tried to create an "even playing field" across the 5 Aussie SR franchises.
ag - those figures are also only for those who are on top up contrats? Which to be eligible for a player had to have been in the wallabies set up for 3 years wasn't it? (I'm thinking back to mowen here)
So it wouldn't cover "casual" type arrangements where newer players are on match and time payments right?
Or did they scrap the 3 years before top up rule?
Cross coders and Overseas returners are a different kettle of fish IIRC.
Jeez. If I didn't know better it would seem like they just make it up as they go along and the usual suspects get the benefit. :S
Yeah there is that too.

Should have used the Benny Hill music for the chook though.
