England call for All Blacks in showdown
I have to admit, I don't think New Zealand would be too keen on this right now
England call for All Blacks in showdown

https://images.thewest.com.au/public...pg?imwidth=800England are exploring the scope for staging a mouth-watering showdown with New Zealand in November.
New Zealand Rugby boss Steve Tew has slammed the brakes on talk of a 2017 match-up between the all-conquering All Blacks and England, but has admitted any showdown between the teams would be "huge".
The world champions have reportedly come in for a mega-offer from England's Rugby Football Union of more than $5 million to agree to the November 4 Twickenham Test.
England have been in scintillating form since their premature 2015 World Cup exit, winning a record-equalling 18 Tests on the trot under Australian boss Eddie Jones.
A victory against Ireland in their Six Nations clash on Sunday morning (AEDT) will give England a record 19th consecutive Test win.
Yet in a frustrating quirk of the international schedule, the game's two in-form teams are not currently scheduled to meet until late 2018, with the All Blacks in negotiations to secure a match against the Barbarians in November.
Tew and the NZRU had previously been insistent their Test outfit would not play England in 2017, but appeared to soften their rhetoric on Thursday.
A number of options were on the table for the November 4 Test, with France, Wales and Scotland already lined up for the subsequent three weeks.
The All Blacks will also play the British and Irish Lions in June and July, coming up against a number of Jones' English men.
"Given the year we have ahead of us, adding an additional fixture against a major nation like England would be huge," Tew said in a statement.
"But we are best to not discuss options until we have firmed up our plans."
Jones has reportedly endorsed the RFU's approach, emboldened by his side's strong Six Nations showings and 2016 whitewash of Australia.
Yet any Test, falling outside of World Rugby's international window, will require the RFU to negotiate the release of their players from the UK Aviva Premiership.
An RFU statement echoed Tew in looking ahead to the sides' locked-in 2018 Test but was somewhat more bullish on the prospects of a tussle this year.
"If there now might be an opportunity to play them this year, we want to pursue it," the statement read.
"But there are many parts to this and many considerations to be discussed."

$5 Million.... that can't be ignored.... huge amount of money to get a matchup against the All Blacks.
I look forward to that game , specially if England beats Ireland and will be a 20 game winning streak if they beat the All Blacks.
Please make it happen....
p.s that $5 million might make the NZRU in an even better position to keep on producing world class players....

I wonder how that game would go down if was played somewhere other than England? Maybe another American excursion for the All Blacks? I know there's a few good Irish enclaves in the USA, like Boston, NYC, Chicago. Are there any good English ones, with a big stadium to match?
agrugger? Any thoughts on this one?

Are you suggesting that the All Blacks are the Anthony Mundine of World Rugby?

To think the ABs would be afraid to play anyone anywhere is a joke the pair of you should be watching bold and the beautiful
To compare them with A Mundine is an insult to all rugby followers.
They're attitude towards there loss to Ireland shows there humility towards there opponents and the game there no excuse attitude compared with the clown portraits and wind up banter with cheika also used by jones when in Aussie there seems to be a pattern evolving there That the ARU would be more aligned with the attitude of the Mundine Camp

Mertz highlighted the other night that England's record so far does not have a match against the All Blacks in it, but guess what, The All Blacks haven't played England in their run so far either.

No it isn't it's only an insult to the ones from New Zealand.
Finally you've shared something about your background.

Wow, a throw-away comment got someone's little pink panties into a knot.
(Regardless that my comment alluded to what Steve Tew himself mentioned in the article.)
Must try this "Bold and the Beautiful" seeing as you recommend it.
:shakeshead:

Still OK. You just need to recognise the trolls. Especially the ones with a chip on each shoulder. Very prone to overreaction. ;)

Ha ha, no worries; I have a bit of trouble recognising the trolls from the sooks, but I'll keep that in mind mate. 8-)

Wonder if we'll hear any more about this game now?

They really should have waited one more week before "calling them out"

From my experience, the English are spreadout all over and don't have the same level of community as the Irish. We had quite a few English in Houston because of Oil and Gas.
But it doesn't matter anymore since they lost.:yeah:

All Blacks to play Barbarians in November, with hope of England clash dashed
Last updated 16:03, March 22 2017
The All Blacks will not be playing England at the end of the year, with the RFU set to green-light New Zealand's game against the Barbarians.
England, fresh from joining the All Blacks with a tier 1 record 18 consecutive test victories, had hoped to test their best against the world champion All Blacks in November, with their side on top of their game.
But according to the Daily Mail's Chris Foy, those hopes have been dashed as NZ Rugby chief executive Steve Tew has insisted his side plays the Barbarians, rather than a hastily put together test against England.
The Barbarians match will go ahead at Twickenham, and had to be signed off by RFU chief Ian Ritchie.
"The intention is to mark the union's 125th anniversary with a celebratory - and lucrative - match against the famous invitational club, before the serious business of their European tour sees them play Tests against France, Scotland and Wales," Foy wrote for the Daily Mail.
It had long seemed unlikely that the England fixture would go ahead, despite suggestions that Ritchie would veto the Barbarians clash if the proposed England game didn't go ahead.
But with Tew staying firm in his desire for the All Blacks to play the Barbarians, England's officials have backed down.

Well, Vern Cotter is coaching the Barbars in the May/June international break (they play England & Ulster), but he'll be at Montpellier come November. I'm not sure if the coach picks the team, either - I think it's the Barbars board, made up of ex-players, who decide who to invite

They could pick a Lions line-up, like in 1973!

Arranged 7 and half months ahead of time is considered hastily arranged?
