Tickets start at about $30 a game, and the salaries are in the 100's of thousands - and pretty low down that scale too I think. I believe there was at one stage a 'soft' cap of about $100,000 which was never enforced in any manner anyway.
I know a player who was offered 15k to play with the Force and the rest was bonus related, he now plays in France.
I understand that this was not an offer that was out of the ordinary.

Wow! 15K aint much for a professional sportsman - is this across the board, or just a WA thang? I would have to assume it was someone who probably wouldn't walk straight into a first XV or bench spot...
He walked straight into a Top 16 team in France....
He is a back and to be fair Australia are fairly well blessed in this area.

A couple hundred thousand seems pretty fair. 15k sounds like slavery, although he did say plus bonuses.
I was suprised, given Australia has a minimum wage but this is the same organisation (ARU) that washed their hands of ladies rugby for a while there... So who knows??

Squad members have 4 salary bands $40k, $70k, $90k and $110k.
Endorsements on top and an ARU top up for Wallaby squad members.

If the players make a 100k or less, the owners must be making a mint. Ticket sales, merchandise, ( a jersey for $124 is a deal), tv contracts, concessions, (a beer @ a game here is $8.00) parking ect.

I guess while people keep accepting it the powers that be will keep jacking up prices and crying poor at the same time.
The Platinum Memberships for the Force are pure daylight robbery, but as always those that can buy them without complaint because we all want the best seats in the house.

Football games are all sold out long before the season starts. The waiting list for season tickets is in the tens of thousands. The only way to get a ticket on game day is from the scalpers outside the stadium.
Corporations own many of the seats. Which is the way many of us get to see a few games.
Its an interesting business this professional rugby.
I don't know what the salaries are like and don't particularly want to.
All the benefits from the Western Force flows back to WA community rugby. The Western Force is "owned" by the local clubs. They elect the board, who can also appoint additional specialists to the board, and hire the CEOetc etc.
The dividends that come to the clubs may not be always financial, ie a cash handout, but there are a number of ways and criteria involved being looked at currently.
The worst thing that could happen to club rugby in WA is the clubs all get a cash handout of $20-30K then spend it on buying players for one season.
It would make more sense to tie grants with specific requirements (facility upgrades etc), development of better ref standards, rugby academys, rugby development officers targeting schools, increasing particpation/comps outside of Perth etc.
Like you said the money is coming in, and they are ahead of what they budgeted for re members and sponsers, but it goes out just as fast. You should see all the medical staff on retainers (mainly orthopedic specialists) who only look after one specific part of the body (ie ankle, upper arm, knee etc). Add to that all the new people required to actually get the thing off the ground on the work force is getting huge.
This has gone from Rugby WA (who probably had 5-6 full time employees) who's turnover was probably $1.5-2m (and this is probably generous) to The Western Force (probably 30-40 full time not counting players and coaches) and a turn over of $15 - 20m. Its a massive growth in a short time.
Most of the WF players I have met are down to earth pratical people. I would hate to get it like the states where the players are out of touch with the fans. There was one clown the other week in the NFL who, when told by his club to improve his dress standards, said he needed a clothing allowance because the $60 million dollar 4 year deal he had just signed diddn't cover it.
Get real!!!
Anyway an honest wage for an honest effort.
Looks like some of the Wallaby stars wouldn't be getting any bonuses if it was paid on effort.
It explains why some of the league no hopers are still being played. If you pay them a lot you had better play them come hell or high water.

Out of touch players and free agency have hurt most pro sports in the states. Many players move from team to team every couple years.

Sorry Burgs, but most of it is based around Perth metro competition. Country sides are reasonably numerous and growing each year but the have their ups and downs as rural/regional WA's workforce can be quite transient. Kiwis flock to towns were a mine, harvesting etc happening and they have a boom until it closes and they all move off.
Whats starting to happen now is some solid foundations being put in place by some excellent rugby people. Its not us that play, at the end of our careers, but ensuring that our youngsters play. They have a committment to the place (parents, friends, school, work etc) and when they leave for uni etc, the are more likely to come back. At the worst you have a life long club member.
A bit of this is duplicating from Country Rugby thread Redbull, but what do think (or is it already happening?) about the Premier Clubs in the city forming alliances with the established Country Clubs to help foster the game? It's really in everyones interest for the game to go ahead in centers like Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Albany etc.
