Fitz's Column 13 Dec 08
What am I bid?

Last week, TFF asked readers to nominate things that might be worth more than Bradman's baggy green cap and I have since been inundated. True, there was no standout nomination that would have blown the cap away - if not the rather waspish suggestion of "Bradman's wartime memorabilia" - but certainly Phar Lap's heart and the actual Ashes would come in higher than Bradman's baggy green. And here are the best of the rest.
Dennis Lillee's aluminium bat. (Dinkum, where is it these days?)
The flag Dawn Fraser nicked in Tokyo. (And where is that?)
The ball Trevor Chappell used to bowl the underarm delivery. (Does anyone know?)
Steve Bradbury's ice skates c
The ball that struck the back of the net when John Aloisi scored the winning penalty in the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in 2005.
Steve Waugh's red hankie.
Heather Mackay's squash racquet.
The famous ball Shane Warne bowled to Mike Gatting.
Cathy Freeman's hooded running suit.
Ricky Stuart's dummy.

Too late, the last one was spit a long time ago!

Dennis' bat and the underarm ball are both actually in the WACA museum. I highly recommend anyone going to the cricket to take a tour for the princely sum of $2 during lunch.
It also has a nice photo of nine men in the slips against Zimbabwe. I defy any cricket fan not to need the stitches and thread after seeing that one.

The Gatting ball might come close and the Ashes and Phar Laps heart for sure, but I reckon they are dreaming with the others, a whole different league.
But then, I guess you only need two people to really want something...

Freeman's suit is in the National sports muesum at the MCG
