That rubbish refereeing is equal to the crappiness that the WAFL umpires display week after week.

i reckon the referee had a good game ! at times there were some shady calls but they were the same both ways!

The refereeing didn't look too bad on the televised footage...

I thought the referee-ing was alright. He had a few questionable calls, but who doesn't. I thought he was consistant in his calls.

But i thought they're uniforms in the first half was too similar to the Rebel's. Might have given Spirit some confusion. Luckily they changed it in the second half.

Isn't Brockie a flank?! Was it me or was he playing in the centres and wing today?! He had a good game though, should consider switching him there.

The ref was poorish but by current standards not the worst. Good game by the our boys showing some of our potential but still work to be done.

Good work rate and effort, just need that extra gel thing to work for us.

All in all pretty pleased and the rebels looked like a bit of a rabel to be honest.

Maybe he got confused and thought he was an umpire? :D

I was so cut when Jimmy went down....we need jimmy! I thought Henjak had a really good game. They missed him last time at home. He seems to bring them together. If he can keep improving on this i wouldn't be suprised to see him with the wallabies next year. Stannard was a bit ugh on occasion but not bad. Shep's starting to get his form back.

So not bad overall. Though I have to say i probably enjoyed watching pally play more which is kinda sad..

When luke comes on the field he brings speed and skills as evident in yesterdays game and the standard of the set pieces were as good or even better. when are they going to give him a fare go
i thought that was the idea of the competition
ps plan for the future not for the present

Hi Jay, welcome along mate, and you make a good point, i didn't see the match myself so cannot make a comment, but i do agree that the ARC should be used to offer up and comers an opportunity, and in a lot of instances across all teams, the chances are not being offered....

Darren

You're right, Jay. Could have been the fresh legs, but he looked great coming off the bench yesterday. EWF had a rotation policy with hookers this year, I'd think the same will happen again in 08 and we will see much more of Holmes.

Welcome Jay :approve:
I guess when you have a Hooker who should be in France it is pretty hard to not start him unless you are sitting on top of the ladder.
Remember that Holmes comes on later in the game when others are getting weary and gaps are starting to open up.
Mulvers seems to sub him on as early as possible though to give him maximum match time.
I believe Mr Versatile, Brocky was in the Outside Backs (officially a Wing I think) as we had run out of Backs on the bench.
The situation you risk when you start with only two Back Reserves.
I agree with Coach, I reckon the Ref looked ok on TV.
He clearly doesn't like Hennas and had a bit of an ego battle there (very Kaplan v Gregan come to think of it...) which didn't help our cause.
The injury to Jimmy is obviously a major blow however I am finally starting to see some hope with Daruda (all be it at #12) so he will probably slot in to #10 with Junior and Crossie back into the Centre pairing.
Funny how noticeable the cheer for AJ whenever he touched the ball was on the telecast, even the commentary team commented and was nice to see AJ respond a little when he came off.
What was the chant that went up briefly during the match?
Sounded ok and maybe a starting point for the future?

umm........ I yelled out "give the kick to AJ" after Henjaks try and because Cam had missed the previous....

I couldn't make it this time... partied a little bit too hard on friday night and was really really crook all day Saturday. I'm a total wuss when it comes to hangovers.

I also slept through the coverage! I'm so annoyed at myself.

But I'm proud as punch of the boys and that result. I'll make sure I get to bed early next friday so I'll be there with bells on for the next home game. :)

I just think the ref needs to learn what a straight line is, where the gate actually is at the breakdown and perhaps learn to distinguish forward passes from backwards passes..but hey...looks like they may just be me. On another note i'm thinking about becoming a touchie...i reckon i could run up and down a line a see where the ball crosses it 100 times better than some of those guys...

I'm so mad! Why do we have so many injuries! Daruda will be alright i reckon. I prefer Crossie on the wing though...and given that we're a tad short on wingers i think we may have a problem. Who was plyaing number 11 yesterday? He lacked some serious pace...

Funny how noticeable the cheer for AJ whenever he touched the ball was on the telecast, even the commentary team commented and was nice to see AJ respond a little when he came off.

I love AJ...hehe...everyone love AJ. You grandstand kids were so loud yesterday!

What was the chant that went up briefly during the match?
There were many chants particularly from our side. There were some pretty cute kids chanting school style "lets go spirit lets go" which had me cracking up. One of them ran over to where we were post game because Henners was tehre chatting to us and he was wearing one of those little rugby jumpers with Henjak's name and number. Henners was like omg you're my hero and was then complaining about how his girlfriend wouldn't let him buy one of the jumpers... so cute :D

Sounds like we may well have paid dearly for the win :(
Word is (yet to be confirmed mind) Hennas is gone with a knee op, Jimmy definitely torn from the bone, Junior broken a bone in his wrist, Lachie potential leg dramas and Shep (otherwise maybe Crossie) most likely to be heading to France.
Will be time for the Forwards to take charge and the junior Backs to step up.
Golden opportunity for a local (Chucky/Dan/Ratu) to state a case for full Force Squad inclusion.

Hooley dooley!!

Was it a rugby match or a gang bust up?

That is some heartbreaking injury list. :(

Jehna
09-09-07, 18:45
OMG...that can't be good! I thought Henners looked pretty whacked but i didn't think it was an injury concern! And Junior as well! I spoke to him after the match and he seemed fine! Actually I spoke to Henners as well and he seemed sweet too... :( This isn't good... I'm not convinced our backs can step up. Ratu, Cummins etc are still suffering injuries...

Oh all due credit to you Mix! I only watched the first half so it was reasonably even til then, but word on the street is you dominated that second half :D I was refering more generally to the game - much better passes, much more cohesion, better plays...it was a good first half mate!

Haha nah it was a bit of a throw away comment...i really should be more careful :) I wish I had stayed. I was impressed with the amount of people who did stay and watch. You guys certainly have some fans. And the little kids chanting for the Spirit were also putting on a show of "Lets go Baysie Lets Go" which cracked me up.

I swa you boys wandering around. I thought you at least saw the first half and maybe some of the second? Similar thing there though...it got better in the second once the rebels tired..

we caught the end of the 1st half, was good to see dan bailey having a good run!! didnt see any of the 2nd half as we went in at the end of the 1st - boy are they strict at members equity!! we werent allowed to bring our own powerade bottles into the ground, they went through all our bags and we had to be escorted everywhere... bit full on i thought!!

yeah we do have a pretty good fanbase, it was good to see all the little kids there while we were warming up and putting their hands out for fives... reminds me of when i was like that :) haha cant wait for this weekend though, it is going to be huge!! hopefully the rain stays away again on the day

Jehna
10-09-07, 11:05
Dan Bailey needs to work on his pace big time though. He got run down there a couple of times when a faster player could have probably made it to the line.

Clearly you're all a bunch of druggies Mix....you never know what's in that powerade these days....i've always thought blue was the most unnatural colour for something that you're supposed to consume :)

Good luck for the weekend. It looks like you boys will put up an impressive game. I'll be sure to watch the whole match this time! What do you play?

goony
10-09-07, 11:31
yeah dan isnt the quickest but he is a big boy, he makes a better centre i think but that is just my opinion...

haha yeah i dont think they realised that there is now a purple powerade, maybe thats where the problem began?? not many ppl like perth bayswater so i can understand it...

make sure you watch the whole match, and maybe wear something black/white ;) haha i have been forced onto the bench throughout the finals series bcoz i hyper extended my elbow on the thursday night b4 the kalamunda game but usually play anywhere in the backline, mainly wing though. i am so excited for this weekend, i am buzzing already hahahaha

Jehna
10-09-07, 11:41
Haha you give that bench a work out mix :D What were you doing on thursday night? You better not have been hyper-extending you arm to get a beer ;)

I actually was unintentionally wearing black and white on sat...i'll have to make sure i remedy that...

Agreed about Dan. He'd probably be a reasonable outside centre. But he is a pretty scary force to confront on the wing though. Speaking of big guys....every time i see stretch on the field for Pally it cracks me up...he's like a walking giant

goony
10-09-07, 11:52
yeah stretch is huge, maybe a bit too big for his own good bcoz it looks like he struggles to get around the park. i reckon pallys inside centre played really well, was easily their best!!

i might as well have been reaching out for a beer bcoz it was such a stupid injury, we were mucking around kicking the balls at the end of training and i went for a jumping smother and as i was coming down my hand connected with his face as he ran past and crack see you later markys elbow!! na i just had a shot of cement and battled through the game that saturdday. still really sore now but its finals time so the adrenalin lets you forget about it and then after the game the beers also help soothe the pain!! was a bit of a big one saturday night, so glad the rwc is on!!

Jehna
10-09-07, 12:06
Haha Stretch got pulled up for a high tackle early on in the game and some guy next to me screamed out "fair go ref, he's got a long way to bend". Cracked me up :D so true... I reckon he should be playing AFL...seems to be more for his build.

Nice work with the elbow....i reckon you should be making up a more dramatic story for that one! Or just keep drinking. I'm not sure i'm going to make it through this world cup with a liver or any sleep. I'm learning that working on France time and copious amounts of alcohol is not really conducive to uni and work in Perth...hmmm...

yeah tell me about it, im strugglinog today but cant be bothered doing much, lucky work hasnt banned this website as they have all the other ones i abuse :) i think bcoz my boss likes hearing all the latest sports news he wont let them ban it. as for drinking well i will have to wait until after next weekend to have a fair crack at it but i'll give you the hot tip right now - the boys are hanging out bigtime!! we cant wait to get into rwc mode and be at the pub mid week etc enjoying the cold beers and great action on tv. im getting thirsty thinking about it!!

as for stretch and playing afl, might be a bit too big lol you do have to jump a bit higher than in a lineout... but if i was that size i would give it a crack 4 sure, they seem to snap up anyone with a height around the 2mtr mark.

That was quite funny. 202cm Rankin tackling 170cm Tipuna -- the only way Rankin could make a legal tackle on Tipuna would be to get down on his knees.

Oh right, it must have been some other team I heard yelling "kick it out and let's get drunk" at the end of the game then? Not that you wouldn't have earned it - that was a really good game and well worth hanging around for. Can heartily recommend all Spirit fans to stay on next weekend.

If the Spirit want to keep on winning - they need to get a new song for their run on music. Don't think lyrics such as "I want to run, I want to hide" put too much fear into the opposition!

Good to be able to watch the local finals at ME as well - though the bonus at Rugby Park is that everyone can get full strength beer, not just the grandstanders!

hmm after watching Dan Bailey play for afewe years now i have to say that his running style gives the impression that he aint moving fast but he actually is. i guess he is a winger built around the moulds of Shane Horgan or the more lanky style wing with longer strides.
