Emirates Western Force inaugural Coach John Mitchell has been granted a release from the final year of his contract at the club to allow the former All Blacks mentor to pursue an opportunity with the Golden Lions in South Africa.
Mitchell had one year remaining on his contract in Perth taking him through until the end of the 2011 Super rugby campaign but had indicated earlier this year he would not be seeking a further term at the club.

RugbyWA Chairman Geoff Stooke OAM said the Emirates Western Force and rugby in Western Australia owed a great deal to Mitchell who started with a blank sheet of paper on his arrival six years ago and built a strong foundation for long term success.

“John Mitchell worked passionately and diligently in setting up the Emirates Western Force rugby programme from the... [Read More]

Cottesloe earned the right to defend their premiership title when they defeated favourites Associates 14-3 at Hartfield today in the preliminary final of the RugbyWA club competition, sponsored by KWIK Transport and Crane Hire.
The Seagulls threw away the script after consecutive losses to Palmyra and Nedlands, exerting total forward control over the game and restricting the frustrated Soaks team to scraps of possession.

Cott led 11-3 at half time and never looked like relinquishing their stranglehold over the game.

Cottesloe surged onto attack from the kick off and flyhalf Dave Cloete did what he does best six minutes in with a superb penalty from the sideline on the 22.

Cottesloe were back in it from the kick off, and ran quick phases up to Soaks' line where Western Force inside... [Read More]

These western suburbs neighbours will be anything but friendly as they lay it on the line with a grand final place awaiting the winner.
The KWIK Transport and Crane Hire competition has seen many twists and turns in 2010. Cottesloe topped the competition table until the final week of play and for the majority of the season were playing an imperious style of winning rugby while Soaks struggled up the middle rankings.

However the Seagulls go into this contest as underdogs, desperately needing to rediscover their cohesion and purpose for a last ditch match against the competition’s form team.

While... [Read More]

With the community rugby premier grade finals starting on the weekend, I thought it'd be timely to catch up with Community Rugby Manager and Western Force Scrum Coach, Matt Tink, and ask him a few questions on the season, and in particular to clarify the competition rules in regards to professionals (Western Force players) playing local comp rugby this late in the season and into the finals.

Thanks for taking the time out to talk with me today, Matt - obviously a busy time of year for you as we head into the finals, how has the season gone from where you're sitting?

I think it has been a great season all round and we’re delighted to have seen an increase in registered players across the Perth senior competitions. It has been a really tight Premier Grade competition in... [Read More]
