Scrumhalf Alby Mathewson will return to the Emirates Western Force's starting line-up to face the Sharks at nib Stadium on Friday night.
The Force has retained the same 22-man squad that pushed the Chiefs in their 22-21 loss to the reigning Super Rugby champions, with Mathewson's promotion to the starting XV the only change in the Western Australian line-up.
Prior to last week's encounter, the Kiwi scrumhalf had started in each of the Force's previous 11 matches.
Friday's match represents the first of five consecutive home matches for the Force, including Super Rugby fixtures against the Sharks, Highlanders, Waratahs and Brumbies, and their tour match against the British & Irish Lions.
Emirates Western Force Head Coach Michael Foley says these matches are an opportunity to... [Read More]

| ONE POINT DECIDES FORCE AND CHIEFS IN PUKEKOHE |
|
10-05-13, 20:03 - by Coach
|
The Emirates Western Force has fallen agonisingly short of a maiden win against the Chiefs in New Zealand tonight, with a 22-21 loss to the New Zealand conference front-runners at ECOLight Stadium.
While the visitors outscored the reigning Super Rugby champions two tries to one, with Force winger Patrick Dellit snaring both five-pointers, and fought back from a 19-11 half-time deficit, they were unable to make up final margin, returning with a losing bonus point for their efforts.
Emirates Western Force Head Coach Michael Foley said despite the result, his side took another step in their overall development tonight.
“I’m very pleased with the effort there [tonight],” he said. “We’re restless about results and we want results and you... [Read More]

| Sheehan, Hayward back for Hodgson milestone |

Scrumhalf Brett Sheehan will complete his successful return from injury when he joins the Emirates Western Force’s starting line-up to face the Chiefs at ECOLight Stadium, Pukekohe on Friday night.
Sheehan made his nib Stadium homecoming off the bench in the Emirates Western Force’s 11-all draw with the Queensland Reds last weekend after recovering from an ankle injury suffered in the Wallabies’ 22-19 win over Italy in November.
The 33-year-old, who will play his 90th Super Rugby match this week, will run on for star recruit Alby Mathewson, who has been named on the reserves list after starting in each of the Force’s 11 Super Rugby fixtures in 2013.
The other change to the Emirates Western Force starting XV sees Jayden Hayward return to fullback, where he has started on... [Read More]

| Force Defence Holds Reds to a Draw |
|

A heroic second half defensive effort has allowed the Emirates Western Force to hold the Queensland Reds to an 11-all draw at Perth’s nib stadium tonight.
While the Western Australians skipped out to an 11-3 advantage early in the second half, it was the side’s defence that rose to the challenge with the Force required to make double the tackles of their counterparts across the match.
Emirates Western Force Head Coach Michael Foley said his side’s work rate was crucial in denying the Reds the win.
“We were playing a side that scored three tries against the Brumbies – they’re a very, very good attacking side and I thought the defence was the cornerstone of our performance,” he said.
“Defence and the breakdown are the two things you measure character by and we were very strong in... [Read More]
