Season Pre-view: ACT Brumbies

Last season was a bad year for the Brumbies. Pretty much everything that possibly could have gone wrong did go wrong. The head coach was sacked after 2 games. The stand in assistant coach failed to gain control of the situation. Injuries stuck pretty badly. In the end the Brumbies finished with four wins and a draw from 16 games: 13th place on the ladder. And this was flattered by late season wins over the Reds and the Rebels. Of the seven Wallaby representatives from the Brumbies squad in 2011, only three have stayed on for the 2012 season. A pretty unfortunate season for the Brumbies.

Season Pre-view: Melbourne Rebels

Form in 2011
It is hard to know what to make of the Rebel’s first foray in Super Rugby. Was it a raging success? Was it a bit of a letdown? Did they do better than the Force did when they entered Super Rugby? The answer to that depends on whether you are a Force fan or a Rebels fan.

The Rebels certainly have developed a solid fan base with their Rebel Army, but still the Rebels’ average crowd was 10,000 less than that of the Force in 2006. Now times are a bit tougher at the moment with only the Reds enjoying better crowd figures than back then but 10,000 more people per game is good evidence that the right decision was made in 2004. You can’t argue with how awesome the Rebel’s stadium looks however.

So what about on the field? 3-0-13 isn’t such a bad start, especially... [Read More]

TWF Rugby Balls - Time to Cough Up!
18-01-12, 10:18 - by Coach
The order is now being processed, and numbers ordered are based on interest expressed over here.

Actual cost per ball is $31
Additional cost for credit card payment via paypal is about $1.10

I've ordered a few extra balls and it'd be nice if people paid an extra dollar or two to cover the cost of these - I'll then save them for giveaways or the like. It's up to you how much, if anything.

You can also make payments via direct deposit.

You will need to PM (Private Message) me with how you would like to pay. If via creditcard/paypal -... [Read More]

Season Pre-view: The South African Conference.

The South African Conference in 2011
The 2011 season was a mixed bag for the South Africans. Their failure to make an impact in the finals, with both the Sharks and the Stormers hopelessly outclassed by the Crusaders, is a definite negative. On the upside however, the Bulls were one spot out of the finals, the Cheetahs performed well and the Lions make great strides along the road to recovery. Despite their poor finals appearance, the Stormers were the team to beat for much of the tournament and seemed like the most dangerous team in the competition.

The post world cup player movement seems to have evened the South African franchise up a fair bit and it will be really interesting to see who comes out swinging. It’s hard to look past the Stormers and the Sharks but the Lions impressed during the Currie Cup... [Read More]
